At Nagle Pre-School

Our program is informed by parent feedback, children’s voices and intentional teaching practices.

Throughout the year our focus is on building relationships. Providing children with time, opportunity and support to build positive relationships with peers and educators, so they feel safe, respected and receptive to learning.

We provide an inclusive play based learning environment, where children learn through a range of integrated learning practices.

As part of our commitment to child safety, diversity and wellbeing, the following programs are part of our curriculum.

Puppets for Social and Emotional Wellbeing

As a part of Nagle’s School Readiness Funding from the Victorian State Government, the first year of kindergarten (3 year old) teaching team work with Puppets for Social and Emotional Wellbeing.

The Resilience Project

As a part of Nagle’s School Readiness Funding from the Victorian State Government, the second year of kindergarten (4 year old) teaching team work with The Resilience Project Early Years Program.

Walk and Visit Intergenerational Program

Our partnership with Community Bank Sandringham allows us to connect with our community in a sustained and meaningful way. Our second year of kindergarten (4 year old) groups visit Regis Aged Care in Sandringham and other places of interest in Sandringham Village on a regular basis through the year. Developing these relationships embed life long values around community, inclusion and diversity.

Body Safety Program

Nagle is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children. Our Body Safety Program is designed to empower and educate our whole community, and particularly children to understand and communicate their rights. This program includes a parent information session, staff professional development and group sessions for the children and teaching team lead by Margie Buttriss from HUSH education.

Early Childhood Language Program AUSLAN

Nagle Pre-School is fortunate to be a part of the Early Learning Languages Australia Program.

AUSLAN was chosen as our language and Tracey, our Early Childhood Languages Teacher, has become much loved part of our community.

AUSLAN is Australian Sign Language, the native language of the Australian Deaf community, and is a visual-spatial, natural language with its own grammar and vocabulary.

Incorporating AUSLAN into the kinder program has many benefits for both deaf and hearing children. Sign language can:

  • enhance children’s educational and personal development

  • increase memory retention and motion processing

  • stimulate brain development and mental flexibility

  • increase enjoyment in communicating for both hearing and deaf children, and fosters a greater respect for diversity.

Children have the opportunity to become more comfortable with different languages early in life so that they stay engaged with language learning in later years. It also helps with understanding of inclusion and respect for diversity.

‘We know that learning another language is a great brain gym for children, and we know in the longer term the more access they have to a second language, they actually do better in school.’ (Professor John Hajek, the University of Melbourne).

Our Kitchen Garden

Nagle offers many gardening and cooking opportunities for the children, with plenty of vegie gardens and enthusiastic cooks in our teaching teams.

Gardening and cooking is a fun way to broaden children’s understanding of their environment and sustainability, as well as developing good food habits.

Incursions

Throughout the year, Nagle will have incursions to enhance the program and meet the emerging interests of the children.

We have a range of incursions throughout the year based on children’s interest, intentional teaching and family feedback.
